The English Language in India - Historical and Contemporary Aspects of Features and Functions

This paper presents a short but yet comprehensive study of the peculiarities of (the)Indian English(es). Starting with the history of the language´s transplantation on the subcontinent by the British colonial rule the paper subsequently analyses the political and social implications within an Indian language policy. Furthermore, the distinct lingusitc features are explored in more detail followed by a comprehensive conclusion.
