Publisher Description

The United States has not elected a woman President in 238 years. Finally, Carolyn Holliday is elected the first woman President of the United States. The country has elected Republicans to control both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and Carolyn is a Democrat. She must demonstrate her leadership skills to develop a bipartisan process to begin moving the country forward. When a senior Senator and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court die of apparent heart attacks, an FBI agent uncovers a serial killer working for someone in the White House. The scandal might destroy her presidency. The CIA uncovers an Al Qaeda plan to detonate several dirty bombs in Washington D.C. Will the President have the courage and judgment to make the tough decision to prevent an imminent Al Qaeda dirty bomb attack. The book follows these three stories simultaneously. It is a timely political suspense story with a focus on the courage, judgment, and leadership skills needed to be President.

The First Madam President (and the dirty bombs)

The First Madam President by Kenneth J. Kerr shows us what it is like for the President of the United States when she is the first woman leader of the country. Like any man, she is charged with having to work with the party across the aisle. As a Democrat, that means she has to work with the Republicans who lead both houses. Our first woman President must also face scandal and a terrorist plot. She shows that, no matter whether you are a woman or a man in charge of this country, you have to deal with many of the same issues and be sure that you can lead this country with skill and grace.
I admit I thought this book looked like a good read because I have always wanted to see a woman President and I can’t wait for that to happen. I stayed with the book, however, because of the enticing way that Kenneth J. Kerr has written it. You can tell that The First Madam President is both well researched and entertainingly written - for me that is the perfect combination of writing. You will be sucked in by the layers of complicated plots that our first woman President has to deal with when working with the CIA and the dirty bombs that are being placed around. Moreover, you will feel her frustration at working within a system with parties that don’t always get along, a topic that feels very current. I would highly recommend this book to readers who love suspense, drama, and just a good book.
