Publisher Description
In this prequel to the bestselling phenomenon They Both Die at the End, two new strangers spend a life-changing day together after Death-Cast first makes their fateful calls. #1 New York Times bestseller!
It’s the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict when someone will die, or is it just an elaborate hoax?
Orion Pagan has waited years for someone to tell him that he’s going to die. He has a serious heart condition, and he signed up for Death-Cast so he could know what’s coming.
Valentino Prince is restarting his life in New York. He has a long and promising future ahead and he only registered for Death-Cast after his twin sister nearly died in a car accident.
Orion and Valentino cross paths in Times Square and immediately feel a deep connection. But when the first round of End Day calls goes out, their lives are changed forever—one of them receives a call, and the other doesn’t. Though neither boy is certain how the day will end, they know they want to spend it together…even if that means their goodbye will be heartbreaking.
Told with acclaimed author Adam Silvera’s signature bittersweet touch, this story celebrates the lasting impact that people have on each other and proves that life is always worth living to the fullest.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Heartwarming romance meets scary science fiction in Adam Silvera’s awesomely unclassifiable novel. This prequel to the bestseller They Both Die at the End (which you don’t necessarily need to have read, although we recommend it) envisions a near future where a service called Death-Cast will conveniently alert you when the day of your death arrives. Native New Yorker Orion and new-to-the-city model Valentino have a strong connection, but when one of them gets the fatal alert, it puts a drastically different spin on their relationship. Thanks to his knack for naturalistic dialogue and relatable emotions, Silvera makes us fall in love with both characters. The novel’s biting commentary on society’s obsession with apocalyptic scenarios adds another amazing layer to the experience. Big questions and big emotions make this a story to remember.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
On the eve of the historic launch of a death-predicting corporation, two queer teens make the most of the time they have left together in Silvera's heart-wrenching standalone prequel to They Both Die at the End. Because of his heart condition, 18-year-old Puerto Rican writer Orion Pagan has spent most of his life waiting to die, terrified of not knowing when it'll happen. With the appearance of Death-Cast, a corporation that claims it can predict people's death dates, he takes comfort in the fact that "at least I'll know when it's game over." Meanwhile, white-presenting 19-year-old model Valentino Prince believes his life is only getting started. Having just arrived in N.Y.C. after moving out of his strict religious parents' house in Arizona, Valentino, eager to discover the city, ventures into Times Square, where Death-Cast prepares to celebrate its launch. The boys meet and strike up an immediate flirtationship amid the celebrations, but when midnight strikes, and Death-Cast informs one of them that he will die the next day, they resolve to spend a lifetime in 24 hours. Fans of the first book will enjoy pointing out familiar details while absorbing Death-Cast's riveting lore. Through the boys' vulnerable alternating perspectives, interspersed with vignettes that explore varied supporting characters' relationships with death, Silvera crafts a stunning and thought-provoking narrative that examines difficult existential questions without eschewing hope. Ages 13–up. Agent: Jodi Reamer, Writers House.

amazing
i read it in one sitting, i think i likes it even more than they both die at the end
Brilliant,Heart Racing,Tear Worthy.
Adam Silvera will make you feel happy, sad, angry, scared. This book tells its story from multiple perspectives whether it’s our heroes, villains,or,side characters with their own story. And nothing goes to waste everything points to our heroes you’ll feel like conspiracy theorist with your red yarn making the connections. The first to die at the end may be a prequel but you don’t need to read the first to die at the end. But if you have read they both die at the end then your in for a treat of golden nuggets of knowledge and heart wrenching scenes. So get out your red yarn. This book in the end was breathtaking, traumatizing yet it gives you the feeling to live for those who don’t get their shot.
