Publisher Description
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the This Man series comes a "brave, cutting-edge romance" (Library Journal) that begs the question: what would you do if you fell in love with someone you can't have?
Annie has never experienced the "spark" with a guy -- the kind of instant chemistry that steals your breath and blindsides you completely. Until a night out with friends brings her face to face with the wickedly sexy and mysterious Jack. It's not just a spark that ignites between them. It's an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.
Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who's had such a powerful impact on her and who could bend her to his will so easily, must be dangerous. But she's already in too deep. And Jack isn't only dangerous. He is forbidden.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Malpas (The Man) spins a sizzling but not entirely satisfying contemporary tale of adulterous romance. After architect Annie meets contractor Jack in a crowded London bar, they wind up in a hotel bedroom that very night, enjoying their explosive chemistry. But Jack is married, as Annie discovers when he turns up at her housewarming party with his wife, Stephanie, in tow. And to make matters even more complicated, Jack's company is doing the build for Annie's current client. Jack is trying to figure out the best way to extricate himself from a bad marriage; embarking on a months-long affair with Annie doesn't help matters. The two live for torrid, stolen moments away from Annie's disapproving friends and Jack's abusive wife. When Annie learns something that could eliminate her rival forever, all bets are off. In her preface, Malpas notes that she expects the tale to be controversial, as most romance readers strongly disapprove of cheating. But Stephanie is such an unsympathetic, ultimately unreformable character that the taboo aspects of Annie and Jack's relationship may be mitigated a bit. A few elements don't ring true, including Jack's reason for marrying Stephanie, but red-hot sex scenes and believable angst will carry readers through to the end.

I’ve read all of Jodie’s novels and this story doesn’t disappoint. I’ve been missing Jessie and Ava so that I’ve had to read This Man trilogy and Miller and Livy waiting for her next adventure. I wasn’t disappointed. I would have been very happy to have a longer fleshed out story of Jack and Annie. Jodi has a real talent to make you fall in love with her men. Thank you Jodi for sharing your talents with the world.

This shows what unconditional love is all about, and it makes us continue to be dreamers, that there is still a chance, that we can find someone to love, as much as Jack and Annie, loved each other, despite all the obstacles in their path.
