Publisher Description
In this first book in the legendary Lymond Chronicles, Francis Crawford of Lymond, traitor, murderer, nobleman, returns to Scotland to redeem his reputation and save his home.
It is 1547 and Scotland has been humiliated by an English invasion and is threatened by machinations elsewhere beyond its borders, but it is still free. Paradoxically, her freedom may depend on a man who stands accused of treason. He is Francis Crawford of Lymond, a scapegrace nobleman of crooked felicities and murderous talents, posessed of a scholar's erudition and a tongue as wicked as a rapier. In The Game of Kings, this extraordinary antihero returns to the country that has outlawed him to redeem his reputations even at the risk of his life.

Magical
I have read every book in this series and each one is better and better. The Lymond character is a complex, artistic, beautiful, conflicted and poetic. The battles and intrigue and family issue set in the historical setting draw you in. In the end the love story is heart wrenching and beautiful. Ms Dunnett has out done herself. I never wanted the series to end and have read it several times.

Best. Series. Ever! Just keep reading I beg of you. You will fall in love with Lymond, the most complex misunderstood literary character of all time. Love the settings of each book, the historical figures, and the way the characters move through the story like chess pieces on a board. This is my third time re-reading and it won't be my last!
Game of Kings
Utter piece of unreadable garbage. In the author's attempt to be clever, the result is an absolute failure of so much garbage. I gave a one star rating only because there wasn't a negative five star rating. I want my money back!!!!!!!!!!
