Publisher Description
A musical instrument or a cultural icon? Certainly, the Gibson Les Paul Sunburst Standard has become the single most desirable and collectable electric guitar ever made. The late '50s middle-of-the-road guitar emerges as the turn-of-the-century Holy Grail. With over 300 'Bursts shown and full color photos, this is the book for all collectors. Also includes a 1958, '59, and '60 Sunburst Les Paul serial number list. Since the first publication of this book til today, the Sunburst has continued to inspire me and new generations of musicians. Thank you, Les. - Jimmy Page
Customer Reviews
The Gibson Burst.
Very disappointed the book is in black and white. No color photos.
Pricy
Given the cost of this book, I expected, at a minimum, a large number of high-resolution color photographs. In reality, there are a bare handful. The remaining photos are low-resolution, poor-quality black-and white images. Given the extensive discussion of the colors and figuring of these guitars, that’s inexplicable. Also, the formatting leaves a lot to be desired; frequently it’s difficult to match the photo to the caption. Typos abound. Also, very little discussion of the genesis or development of the Les Paul Standard. Apparently the book is intended for readers who also know a great deal about the history of Gibson and the Les Pau. Ironically, a much better source for information on the history of the Gibson Les Paul is “The Strat in the Attic."
