Ok read, but not one of Parker’s best. Not a very good ending.
Engrossing
Robert B Parker’s excellent use of the first person narrative brings you right into the action. What Spenser does to the bad guys makes you wish you were him, and I found myself cheering him on when he roughed them up. The Mickey Spillane influence is evident but nuanced. The time frame is late 60’s but still relevant to what goes on today at many college campuses. And as someone who attended college during that time, I enjoyed the nostalgia. Very engrossing.
Great start to a great series
After reading several Spenser episodes out of order, I was finally able to read the 1st book in this series. It gives the reader a very good understanding of who Spenser is, was and will be. His irreverent wit adds to his character, which I think is what makes this series very enjoyable. Easy and quick read.
