The Golden Thread

Matt arrives at Goa airport with a backpack, a Rough Guide, and the private conviction that India has called him. Palolem's party beach is a disaster. A leaking coco-hut, a midnight monsoon, and a refund that never comes send him south, into the hills, a family kitchen, and a quieter camp called Mountain Huts.

There he meets Theresa, an Austrian healer who already knows the work. Then Bibi from Ibiza, Gelbu the Nepali waiter, and Stefan — the torso on the path. They call themselves family from Egypt, Atlantis, the stars. They smoke, chant, flick energy, burp out darkness, and watch crows and bats cross between worlds. Matt coughs out what he cannot name. He is held in the sea. He sees a drunk man in the road and pours white light through his hands. A stray dog leads him home through a dream that is not a dream.

A solar eclipse on a boulder facing the Arabian Sea ends the old self. The return to Manchester is ice, Imodium, cancelled clients, and a therapist who names the fall: expectation. Between the God realm and the toilet, Matt finds Tina Turner, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, and the only instruction left — rest, then make it an adventure.

The Golden Thread is a first-person memoir of Goa at the edge of the tourist season: sacred cows and Kingfisher nights, Indian-style toilets and past-life screams, kindness that feels like royalty and greed that leaves a man in the gutter. It is about healers who are also wounded, about men learning to stand, and about the moment the light and the dark turn out to be the same thread.

For readers of spiritual travel memoir, energy work, and anyone who has come home changed and wondered why the world did not change with them.
