“The Good Daughter is like Law and Order meets The Good Wife.” —theSkimm
The stunning new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Pieces of Her— a searing, spellbinding blend of cold-case thriller and psychological suspense.
Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind…
Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father — Pikeville's notorious defense attorney — devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.
Twenty-eight years later, and Charlie has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself — the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again — and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized — Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won't stay buried forever…
Packed with twists and turns, brimming with emotion and heart, The Good Daughter is fiction at its most thrilling.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Karin Slaughter’s terrifying thriller isn’t for the faint of heart, but those who dare plunge into this story will be rewarded with wall-to-wall suspense, surprisingly real characters, and the bestselling author’s trademark smart and shockingly dark storytelling. Charlie Quinn is a small-town lawyer who can’t escape her father’s notoriety or the violent tragedy that shattered her youth. When she becomes a witness to a horrific crime, Charlie’s submerged memories break through. The Good Daughter thoroughly rattled us.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the prologue of this gripping standalone from Thriller Award finalist Slaughter (Pretty Girls), Zach Culpepper and an accomplice break into the Pikeville, Ga., home of attorney Rusty Quinn, who has become an unpopular figure for his advocacy on behalf of "outlaw bikers, drug gangs, and child killers," as well as abortion clinics and unions. Ironically, Zach is someone Rusty has defended in the past. The thugs gun down Rusty's wife and brutalize his teen daughters, Charlotte and Samantha. Samantha is shot in the head and buried alive, her fate left uncertain. Flash forward 28 years: Charlotte, now a lawyer, gets caught in a school shooting that claims the lives of the principal and a student. Charlotte spots a teenager wearing goth makeup holding a gun, but she believes something about the crimes doesn't add up and investigates herself. Meanwhile, the shooting incident revives memories of the trauma that she and her family suffered years before. Slaughter keeps the twists coming, but some plot developments come at the expense of psychological depth. Author tour.)
