A parody that was taken seriously...
This gospel is clearly an attempt to make a parody out of the original gospels, possibly the work of Pharisees (or rabbis of the second century) making fun of Christianity.
For instance, when you read the distorted version of the parable of the lost sheep, a conclusion is added:
"He left the ninety-nine and sought the one until he found it. After he had gone to this trouble, he said to the lost sheep 'I love you more than the 99.'"
Tis comic and provocative style of distortion can be found in many other parables, some are very aggressive.
The translation is a bit weird also, Instead of using "son of man" the author decided to use "children of mankind." but at least the original coptic text is included for comparison, if you can understand it anyway...
Overall, not more than a fun reading.
