Good storyline and detail
I’m enjoying this trilogy and looking forward to diving into the third installment. The storyline is good and the characters are likable.
I find the world building, character development and narrative perspective could have been handled better. I have grown to expect the detailed maps that accompany many of my favorite fantasy series, and enjoy immersing myself by following along the character’s journey, which I struggle to do here.
I found Myranda’s terrific rise to power a bit unearned in comparison to her colleagues. I understand she’s supposed to be a prodigy, but it felt any accomplishments she made were either achieved without significant effort or the narrative did not due the effort justice.
Speaking of the narrative, I felt the frequent switch between perspectives to be difficult to follow at times. I felt the changes in perspective could have been denoted more clearly.
Aside from those minor issues noted by this amateur reader, I feel the book is definitely worth reading for any fan of the genre
