Publisher Description

"You see, there’s something special about baseball, something magical. When I tell you about the crack of the bat and say the ball was a lined shot over the head of the shortstop, you can picture it, right here, in your head. When I tell you about anything that happens on a ball field you can picture exactly what’s happening. You try that with football or basketball or soccer. It’s not the same. Baseball. Yep, there’s a certain magic to baseball."-- Dave Pierce

And there's something magical about The Greatest Baseball Game Ever Played.

As Tommy Davis discovers, there have been plenty of great baseball games played. A number of World Series games fall into the "great" category, as do quite a few memorable Major League games played with little or nothing at stake. But one of the most interesting games ever played has no video to replay, no scorecard record to study and no longer an eye witness to recall it.

A scrap of an old newspaper article with the title "The greatest baseball game ever played" and a diary written as punishment are the only clues about this truly incredible game.

If you're a baseball fan you'll be surprised and astounded. Great pitching, fantastic fielding, terrific hitting and incredible running all come together for this one amazing game. Unfortunately, only a few hundred people were witness to it and they're all dead.

But thanks to the diary, Tommy gets to experience this unbelievable game.

For Tommy, this is something special. One of his legs was severely injured in an accident and now he can only watch the game and appreciate it from the perspective of a spectator. Baseball comes alive through his eyes––the best parts of the game as well as the worst. He watches in awe as the uncle of one of his friends makes his major league debut. He watches in horror as the father of a young player bullies his son into a situation that will forever remain a nightmare for those who witnessed it. And he magically relives an incredible amateur game played over one hundred years ago––The Greatest Game Ever Played.
