A romance and a travelogue
This novella is really a travelogue of several islands in the Hebrides. And an entertaining visit it is. Writing in the 1880s, Jules Verne tells a simple story of a curious young woman who Must experience the Green Ray. No science fiction here, he clearly describes the nature of these barren yet beautiful islands at the edge of the Atlantic. I kept interrupting the story to Google the islands they were visiting; which I think have only changed in the amount of tourists who explore them now. The romance is charming and a bit over sentimental but it’s Victorian after all.
