Tulsa’s Greenwood district was predominantly Black and was so affluent it was known as Black Wall Street. But when a white woman was supposedly threatened by a Black man, that single unconfirmed incident became an inflection point for the racism smoldering in other parts of town, leading to one of the most deadly and most shocking acts of mass violence in American history.
