RITA Award finalist Lynda Aicher fires up a thrilling series featuring rugged men who play hard for a living. When it comes to one another’s hearts, they never back down—because behind closed doors, the games they play are very different.
Expert whitewater-rafting guide Grady Kelley lives for that rush of adrenaline: at work, as the newest employee of a Portland-based outdoor-adventure sports company, and off the river, where liaisons with anonymous men keep him satisfied. Grady prefers no drama and no strings attached, but when tragedy strikes, fate leads him to Micah Swaine. He’s hot, masculine, distracting—and offers the kind of deeper connection Grady has sworn off, no matter how badly he craves it.
Working at a leather bar, Micah meets a lot of guys, but Grady’s different—and he seems to feel the same way. The trouble is, anything beyond casual sex is too risky for Micah. He’s got secrets he doesn’t know how to share, secrets that would make any relationship a battlefield. No man, even one as compassionate as Grady, would stick around for that kind of trouble. And yet, as physical desire melts the walls they’ve put up, Micah and Grady discover that trusting each other is the most exhilarating adventure of all.
The Harder He Falls is intended for mature audiences.

With this spicy, heartwarming tale, Aicher (the Power Play series) launches a new male-male romance series featuring Adrenaline Kick Adventures, an outdoor adventure company in Portland, Ore., run by kinky queer men. New employee Grady, a white-water raft guide, fears losing his job if found guilty of negligence in a rafting accident that left a colleague dead and Grady's cousin Finn in a coma, a trauma for which he feels culpable. He was disowned by his father and abused by his dominant first lover, and he also fears his employers will discover his sexually submissive inclinations. Micah, a non-dominant top who has lingering physical side effects from his own coma experience, volunteers to read to comatose patients and bartends at Dane's, a gay leather bar frequented by Kick's owners. Micah and Grady, fearful of intimacy but drawn together by a strong sexual attraction, discover mutual respect and kindness: "Holding not confining. Supporting not judging. Helping not saving." Readers will love this uplifting, satisfying romantic adventure about sympathetic protagonists finding strength to leave their comfort zones and risk a committed relationship as both friends and lovers.

When he falls
Micah and Grady meet in Grady's cousin's hospital room. Micah is reading to the man who cannot respond. Grady is instantly attracted and not sure what to do about it.
Grady has had so many bad things happen in the last while - he has stopped looking for the good. Micah helps him to see what he has to be grateful for. He also helps him see what the love of a good man can be.
Together they help each other navigate the tougher waters of life. They are good for one another, in more ways than one. I was impressed with many of the subjects covered in this book. Though, with this terrific author, I should not have been surprised. I cannot wait to read the next installment in the new Kick series.

This is a good start to what I hope will be a great series. As a fan of Wicked Play I look forward to Lynda's further exploration into m/m lit and hope she becomes more comfortable w/the genre. The plot is good & the characters well drawn but I feel like she gets a bit uncomfortable w/her boy's emotional baggage in spots. Like she's not really sure that's what they'd really feel. A little more sex would not be amiss either ;-)
Riveting and Moving Read!!!
I have never read Linda Aicher before, but after reading this book, I hope I can continue reading her books for years to come. I am so impressed with her writing in this book. The characters are so well developed and real and beautifully flawed and the storyline is one that I will not soon forget. This book hooked me very early on and I did not want to put it down. Grady and Micah, who are both dealing with their own demons, are thrown together by chance. Can these two beautiful men heal each other's souls and find love in the process? Their journey is one of both self realization and self acceptance as well as a path to the realization that each character is worthy of giving and receiving love. Overall, I found the book to be provocative, captivating, poignant, intriguing, sensual, and completely enthralling. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a riveting and moving read.
