Publisher Description
With his “ability to disgust (and delight) even the most seasoned horror enthusiast” (Publishers Weekly), Bentley Little conjures up your greatest fears as he dares you to spend a night with the haunted....
Julian and Claire Perry and their two children, Megan and James, have made the move to a bigger, nicer home in their city's historic district. But something isn't right.
The neighbors seem reluctant to visit. Claire can't shake the feeling that someone is watching her. Megan receives increasingly menacing and obscene texts. And James is having terrible dreams. No wonder, considering what he's seen in the corner of the basement, staring at him and shuffling closer ever so slowly.
Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the stairs is rising....

Great book
I enjoyed it like all of his other ones I've read
Is this a joke?
Got this book rather inexpensive. I simply cannot believe the amateurish writing, the stilted dialogue, the boring scenes that could be thrown away with zero impact on the “story.” I don’t know where to begin with how awfully stupid this book is. Ooh... everyone’s scared of the basement. Oh no, something appeared then disappeared, so scawey!!! This book is a complete waste of time. No, really, I usually force myself to finish a book that I’ve purchased, but I just can’t even with this one. You know how everyone thinks they have a novel in them? So did this author and unfortunately someone encouraged him to try to write one. He must have had a terrible writer’s group. Oh, and, there’s a brief, graphic sex scene, so that makes the book edgy and cool! What a daring author! He’s really expressing himself through his work! Give me a break...
Why the hate towards female characters?
I think the set up was great. Author really did a good job setting the mood and creating a creepy atmosphere. But I found so much of the graphic sex scenes and especially the sexual assault towards the female characters one of them being a little girl so unnecessary. It didn’t even explain in the end why the haunting was sexually motivated. He just added it in their for shock value. The daughter character seemed to only be there to be a victim of the ghosts sexual assault and never contributed to the story. Very lazy tropes for a horror novel. For that I’m giving this book two stars.
