Recently, the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids have been widely accepted, especially in cases of cardiovascular disease. This book delves into the health benefits of these essential fatty acids in cases of inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and irritable bowel syndrome. Everything from a discussion of the anti-inflammatory actions of these wonderful nutrients to a comparison of the levels in the diets in different parts of the world is discussed. Many different studies are presented which overall indicate these supplements may be effective in helping to control these gastrointestinal disorders. The addition of these fatty acids to one's diet may dramatically reduce the symptoms associated with both inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. This book is an updated version of a thesis presented to Clayton College of Natural Health in 2004.
