Mairi doesn't want his pity or his charity - even though his dark smoldering gaze makes her melt with desire.
Dunn may be a battle-hardened clansman, but he's always had a soft spot for Mairi. For years, she tormented him with flirtation - only to reject him. But he's not giving up. When Mairi is attacked by redcoats, Dunn goes after the woman he loves. Through brute strength and fierce action, he will protect her life at any cost. But to win her heart, he will have to show her the tenderness in his own.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Jarecki's sensual fourth Lords of the Highlands historical (after The Highland Guardian) highlights the allure of the early-18th-century Scottish Highlands amid the turmoil of Jacobite rebellion. Lady Mairi MacKenzie, proud daughter of the Earl of Cromartie, was crushed when her longtime fianc , the Earl of Seaforth, wed another, but she refused Laird Dunn MacRae's subsequent offer of marriage, believing it was only made as a favor to Seaforth. After Dunn protects Mairi during an attack of British redcoats, she realizes that his proposal was sincere, based on his enduring affection and admiration of her. The danger is constant as Dunn tries to hide Mairi from the redcoats. When he whisks her away to safety, her father thinks Dunn's kidnapped her and puts a price on his head. Sexual tension heats up the pages as Mairi agrees to wed Dunn against her father's wishes. Mairi's fortitude and sense of independence make her an admirable protagonist for this fast-paced, expertly crafted romance.

A Captivating Romantic Story
Lady Mairi MacKenzie is humiliated. Her betrothed has decided to marry someone other than her. She is not overly worried though. Being the first daughter of an Earl, Lady Mairi won’t have to wait long before she is betrothed again. But, when Laird Duncan MacRae proposed marriage, right after being jilted, Mairi was mortified. She was not about to accept a pity marriage. So she promptly declined the Laird’s offer. Her father would not have allowed her to marry Laird Dunn anyway; because he was not a titled gentleman.
Lady Mairi’s father was known for his cold, cruel, brutal ways. He was always kind to Lady Mairi, though, so she only half-believed what was said about him. But when her heart began to fall for Laird Dunn MacRae, Lady Mairi was shocked at her father’s reaction. He was not only cruel and ruthless to Laird Dunn, but also to her. Lady Mairi was left with a painful decision. Does she choose the only family she’s ever known, or does Lady Mairi, follow the man she loves, and become her father’s enemy?
The Highland Chieftain is a captivating, romantic tale. If you enjoy adult historical fiction romance, you’ll love The Highland Chieftain.
