A lass begging to marry him might top the list of “oddest things to happen,” but Chief Adam Macquarie is desperate. And no matter how much he hates to do it, he’s not above lying to get what he wants. Starting with the fact that he just omitted the truth about the situation back at his home—where there are no women and only a handful of other people. Because he has a secret need for a wife himself, one she won’t be too happy about when she finds out.

Lark Montgomerie is thrilled the brawny chief agrees to save her from her drunken father’s machinations of wedding her off to the first fool that agrees. He’s easy on the eyes and no one can be worse than her current options. Now a new life awaits her, on an exciting Scottish isle no less, and nothing will dampen her spirits. That is, until she arrives in her new homeland and realizes more than a few things are amiss…

The Highlander’s Unexpected Proposal

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

What a fantastic start to another series. I am already looking forward to the other Macquarie brothers! Another plus was catching up with prior characters of the Highland Isles series.

The Macquarie brothers are at the Beltane festival looking for a bride. They need to rebuild their clan and their home on Ulva (Wolf) Isle. A "witch" placed a curse on the clan over a century before and only the brothers remain on the isle. Lark Montgomerie and her family are also at the festival. Lark finds out that two men are after her hand in marriage. She despises them both. She hides up a tree and that is where Adam Macquarie (chief of the clan) finds her after spying her slipper amongst the leaves.

The adventures and mysteries that surround these two were fascinating to read. I was so intent to discover the mystery in the happenings on the isle that before I knew it, I had finished. I was completely enchanted by the couple (and of course the remaining brothers!)

There were some "sexy" scenes but the details were so highly glossed over, they were not offensive (at least to me.) That being said, of course, if you adore a wonderful historical (especially Scottish) romance, I would highly recommend this to anyone over the age of 18.

I Didn’t Just Read It-I felt It Deep In My Heart!

Heather aced another from cover to cover that will stay with you long after you have read it. A definite shelf keeper and future #1 hit on every historical romance book list. It is so beautifully written with love, honor, passion, mystery and romance. Yet it is not without broken hearts that definitely need mending and love! Who better to heal it than a braw, swoon worthy highlander! Yet the Macquarie brothers also need the softness of a woman to survive this dark barren land and bring it back to its bright light, life and former glory! Will this slip of a Lass get rid of this spell bound curse and bring love back into their battered hearts? Read this enchanting book and find out!

This is the first book in Heather McCollum’s brand new “Brothers of Wolf Isle” series, and again is another refreshing masterpiece! I love that it blends in with her former “Highland Isles” series with some familiar characters that McCollum Highland Isles readers will recognize and be absolutely dazzled by! Since I loved the “Highland Isles” series, which is how I discovered this author, this was like a book reunion for me therefore it made this read even more special to me. I absolutely devoured this book from start to finish and could not put it down. It has all the elements and twists and turns that historical romance readers love. A book readers definitely don’t want to miss. So yes, I absolutely recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next one in this exhilarating brand new series “Brothers of Wolf Isles!”
