Publisher Description
The Histories of Herodotus of Halicarnassus is considered
the first work of history in Western literature. Written about 440 BC in the
Ionic dialect of classical Greek, The Histories tells the story of the
Greco-Persian Wars between the Achaemenid Empire and the Greek city-states in
the 5th century BC. Herodotus travelled extensively around the ancient world,
conducting interviews and collecting stories for his book.

Truly great
A wonderful text to read. It's so interesting to read about what an inquiring mind made of the wonders of the ancient world in which he lived. Read about his theories why the river Nile floods every summer and see how our vast amount of scientific knowledge has changed our reasoning. Then read his description of the mummification process of the Egyptian dead. Fascinating.
