Creepy and tense!
I read this book as a paperback without having the slightest idea that it was the first book in a trilogy. No big deal; I’m not usually a fan of series, except for a few, but I enjoyed this bizarre, creepy tale of terror enough, with its excellent characterization and escalating tension, that I have no problem with tracking down the sequels to read! I don’t know if I will read very many other books by Mary SanGiovanni, but she’s a very talented author who deserves to be a much bigger name in the horror field! If you like really strange tales of supernatural horror, you’ll love this! I recommend it! And, even though I’ve never read them, I recommend tracking down the sequels if you like this book. Judging by this book, I would bet that the sequels are probably just as good, or almost as good!
