Publisher Description
The Harvard-educated physician and New York Times bestselling author of The Hormone Cure shows you how to achieve hormone balance by growing new receptors for your seven metabolic hormones, making you lose weight and feel great fast!
When it comes to weight loss for women, most people don’t think about hormones. But when you develop resistance to your seven major metabolic hormones—cortisol, thyroid, testosterone, growth hormone, leptin, insulin, and estrogen—your body adjusts by increasingly raising your hormone levels and ultimately slowing down your metabolism. And a slower metabolism leads to weight gain and difficulty losing weight. The solution to this hormonal imbalance, Dr. Sara Gottfried contends, is to reset the efficiency of your hormones by repairing and growing new hormone receptors.
Based on leading scientific research from the world of functional medicine, The Hormone Reset Diet is her proven weight loss and energy program to reverse hormone resistance and deliver a metabolism boost in just three weeks. It will help you:
Boost your metabolism and calorie burning by growing new and fresh thyroid receptors; Increase your weight loss by re-balancing estrogen and progesterone receptors; Reverse your aging by resetting glucocorticoid receptors (for better processing cortisol).
For the last twenty years, this Harvard-MIT educated physician has helped thousands of women address the root hormonal causes of what bothers them most: excess weight, lack of energy, aging, and illness. Going beyond her bestselling The Hormone Cure, this book provides a complete anti-inflammatory diet and program for hormonal optimization for rapid weight loss.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Gynecologist Gottfried (The Hormone Cure) specializes in integrative, functional medicine that helps women balance their hormones in an effort to combat food addiction, reduce stress and inflammation, and lose weight. The book's nutritional prescriptions consist of seven three-day food-elimination regimens. Each area targeted for elimination corresponds to a different hormone: meat and alcohol (estrogen), sugar (insulin), fruit (leptin), caffeine (cortisol), grain (thyroid), dairy (growth hormone), and synthetic toxins (testosterone). The chapters include self-assessment checklists, information on various hormones' effects on metabolism, food and supplements lists, and a sample one-day menu. A closing section, "Re-entry and Beyond," offers, among other advice, the author's "personal food code" and a set of rules for maintaining a trigger-free, hormone-healthy way of life. Gottfried's chatty, encouraging, woman-to-woman tone makes a very challenging diet plan seem quite doable, as does an appealing layout with boxes, illustrations, and tables. This diet guide seems certain to hit bestseller lists.
Customer Reviews
Just finished the 21 Day reset
So I'll preface this by stating I've been a strict vegan since 1978, except in recent years, I have added premium Greek Yogurt back to my diet, so giving up meat or any animal products was not an issue. I also have not had sugar in years, and have been gluten free since '08. That includes "gluten free" products. No flour of any kind.
That said, my expectation for weight loss was not potentially 15 pounds, but I would've been happy with 3-4 (I'm 53, 130, 5'6").
I lost no weight at all, which surprised me from the caffeine stand point with the cortisol, etc. I had switched from coffee to black tea a year ago because menopause has left me a bit jumpy, and I am glad to be caffeine free. (By the way, don't do as I did and quit cold turkey. That's a two day headache.)
All in all, the reset has left me far less jumpy, although I may go with green tea just for some variety. Herbals are a bit sweet for me.
So, I hope it helps.
