“Gossipy, scandalous housewives behaving badly might make this the juiciest read of the season."--Library Journal (starred review)
"Sultry, salacious and utterly unpredictable....You'll devour it."--Riley Sager, New York Times bestselling author of Home Before Dark
The Hunting Wives share more than target practice, martinis, and bad behavior in this novel of obsession, seduction, and murder.
Sophie O'Neill left behind an envy-inspiring career and the stressful, competitive life of big-city Chicago to settle down with her husband and young son in a small Texas town. It seems like the perfect life with a beautiful home in an idyllic rural community. But Sophie soon realizes that life is now too quiet, and she's feeling bored and restless.
Then she meets Margot Banks, an alluring socialite who is part of an elite clique secretly known as the Hunting Wives. Sophie finds herself completely drawn to Margot and swept into her mysterious world of late-night target practice and dangerous partying. As Sophie's curiosity gives way to full-blown obsession, she slips farther away from the safety of her family and deeper into this nest of vipers.
When the body of a teenage girl is discovered in the woods where the Hunting Wives meet, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and her life spiraling out of control.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Lifestyle journalist Sophie O'Neill, the narrator of this nail-biting thriller from Cobb (Big Woods), leaves a successful job in bustling Evanston, Ill., wishing to "slow down" with her architect husband and preschooler son in small town Mapleton, Tex. Soon, a bored Sophie seeks the company of oil-rich Margot Banks, the force behind an exclusive conspiratorial clique of four wives, a group of dysfunctional friends heavily lubricated with a steady diet of martinis and mojitos. Friday nights light up with their private skeet shooting club, followed by barhopping. The flirting women have only two rules: first names only, and don't go all the way. But rules are meant to be broken. Fueled by alcohol, rage, jealousy, unhappy marriages, and blind lust, the women indulge in adultery and raunchy sex. It's Texas, so keep an eye out for hunky football players, and when a teenage cheerleader ends up dead, Sophie becomes the prime suspect. Wild plot twists keep the pages turning up to the unexpected ending. This romp is a guilty pleasure.

Captivating ending
It took so long to get into the book, main reason i gave three stars. Once i got into it (20% of the way through the book), i couldn’t set it down!
The show is way better .
In the book she mentions her Toyota Highlander constantly. And she does a-lot of rambling . This woman is 36 and never had a h*e phase and decided to try it at 36 with high schoolers. I was only interested in reading the book bc the show was so good, and usually the book is better than the show but not in this case. The show has more depth and plot twists.
Only got half way through and had to stop
This was a book we read for a bookclub. I have not watched the netflix series so have no options on the show. There are only two books I had to stop reading in my life and this book is the second. NONE of these characters are even remotely like able. But, I trudged on reading. There is way too much character development and not enough mystery- and the more I read, the more I disliked them all.
What made me stop reading was the “grooming” of teenage boys. While one of the boys was 18- these married with children women are in their 30’s and one of the boys is the son of another member. A huge ick, disgusting factor came across me and I just could not stomach this (even when genders are reversed- this is gross). It felt very p@doph!le-ish. No thank you. I hate them all and couldn’t care less who killed who at this point.
