Carl suffers from a terminal illness, but he finds a way to survive indefinitely by using his talents and a young, healthy, vulnerable woman who's made the mistake of loving him.

This short story is the basis for the novel Drawn to the Grave, which won The International Horror Guild Award and was a finalist for The Bram Stoker Award.
