The Instrument Rating Manual

This manual is aimed at providing the knowledge required by candidates for the New Zealand Instrument Rating examinations in the subjects ‘Instruments and Navigation Aids’ and ‘Flight Navigation IFR’.  The manual is in two parts to reflect those two separate but related subjects.


The material in Chapters 1 to 12 of Part 1 covers the NZCAA syllabus for the Instruments and Navigation Aids examination.  It should be noted that Chapter 12 on GNSS also provides, in effect, a pilot training syllabus for the Instrument Rating GPS endorsement.  This chapter has again been updated in this edition of the manual.
