Macy Turner is used to doing favors for her friends. As the founder, owner and editor-in-chief at Gatherings, the only lifestyle magazine in Grand Falls, Tennessee, folks are always asking her a free classified ads, a puff piece on their new restaurant and, in the case of fellow book club member Carla Holmes, a summer job for her bad boy son, Ethan. After all, what harm can it do?

College junior Ethan Holmes wants nothing to do with the boring old internship at some "lifestyle magazine" his mother has set up for him this summer. That is, until his new boss, Macy, walks into the office one day, stunning him with her good looks, breezy personality, quick wit and barbed tongue. Oh, what he'd love to do with that tongue! But he can't hit on his boss, right? A woman nearly twice his age? And his mother's best friend?

But when Ethan's first day on the job makes it clear that Macy feels the same way about him, the two soon agree on a compromise: they'll see where this sizzling passion takes them, as long as it only lasts the summer.
