H. Rider Haggard was an English novelist and Victorian writer of African frontier adventure novels. He initiated many of the now common themes of the lost civilisation and lost continent, including the ancient magic and curses, secret chambers and mysticism. Together with Arthur Conan Doyle, Haggard is considered as one of the founder of Lost World literary genre.
The Ivory Child by Rider Haggard is a novel with the centre figure in it, Allan Quatermain. And the story of Ivory Child is considered to be the continuation of "Allan and the Holy Flower" with its own unexpected twists. The storyline consists of Allan Quatermain's quest to find his buddy's kidnapped wife but also as in the previous stories involved in a lost tribe's civil war. Meanwhile the story consists of significant numbers of characters and events. Into this mixed war are thrown a gigantic and evil elephant god, a monster snake guardian, great epic battles, shooting competitions, sandstorm, etc. But despite all of them Haggard and his character provides a tearjerker ending.
