You may be familiar with the tale of the Jamaican bobsled team through the movie Cool Runnings. It's a funny, lovable film about hapless tropical islanders trying to compete as bobsledders at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary before ultimately crashing.
Bu the true story of struggle, sacrifice and finally redemption is far more compelling.
In this biography the Jamaican Bobsled Captain, Dudley "Tal" Stokes, does indeed dangerously crash the four man sled he is driving.
But rather than quit, Tal decides to put everything he's got into becoming a top bobsledder instead of the butt of jokes.
Despite heartbreaking setbacks, he finally masters the sport and takes his place among bobsledding's elite at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
Tal's inspiring quest to succeed against all odds reveals the transformational power of believing in yourself!

Historical page turner!
Ben Stubenberg takes us on a colorful journey of both the story of the Jamaican bobsled team and the history of a fascinating sport that we know so little about beyond catching glimpses on TV every four years. As you can imagine the type of person drawn to flying down an icy track at 80mph make for a compelling and exciting tale. The author expertly takes us on a colorful and insightful journey into the legends that make up world of bobsled with perfectly digestible interludes of history, backstory and the color that comprise the sport along with the rise and success of the Jamaican team. A great read, I couldn’t put it down and highly recommend this book!
