It’s up to reporter and bridge player Wendy Winchester Rierson to finesse a homicide investigation where the killer holds a master hand . . .
King Kohl, scion of the Kohl and Son real estate firm, has a reputation for loving three things: the ladies, closing on properties, and playing bridge. Still, when he invites Wendy, the president of the Rosalie, Mississippi, Country Club Bridge Bunch, to a small, exclusive bridge party, her investigative instincts as a reporter for the Rosalie Citizen are on the alert. In fact, King means to use the occasion to make a surprising announcement to his selected guests. But before he can lay his cards on the table, tragedy strikes.
After receiving a mysterious message to hurry to King’s home, Wendy almost collides with the man’s real-estate rival, running out the front door insisting he found King dead when he arrived. Not just dead, it turns out, but murdered—crowned with one of his own award plaques.
Is the rival as guilty as he looks? Was it a crime of passion by one of Kohl’s scorned lovers? With her detective husband Ross and her father Bax Winchester, the chief of police, Wendy is determined to find the offender who dropped the unguarded King . . .
Praise for Cold Reading Murder
“A very Southern mystery with authentic characters, a well-hidden killer, and some helpful bridge tips.”

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
At the start of Lee's solid fourth Bridge to Death mystery (after 2021's Cold Reading Murder), Wendy Rierson, an investigative reporter for the Rosalie, Miss., Citizen and the president of the Rosalie Country Club Bridge Bunch, receives an invitation from King Kohl, a successful realtor who's a womanizer and a bridge fanatic, to his next card party. The day before the party, Wendy receives a text from King canceling it and asking her to come to his house so he can explain why. But as she approaches the house, an agitated man rushes out of the front door declaring he just found King with his head bashed in. He's Marcus Silvertree, a rival realtor, who becomes a suspect in the subsequent murder investigation conducted by Wendy's police detective husband, Ross, who's fond of telling her how much he admires her talents as an amateur sleuth. Wendy's involvement in the case leads her to the most narcissistic, evil, demented killer she has ever encountered, and it's up to Ross to save someone Wendy puts in mortal danger. Colorful characters make up for the somewhat confused plot. Fans of edgier cozies will be satisfied.
