The King of West Brooklyn
A Crime Thriller Novel
By David Alexander
Dominick "Dee" de Venise's textile warehouse has been in the family for generations, but he'll have to torch it for the insurance money. De Venise has no other choice. The Mezzatesta family is into him for boo-koo bucks and if he doesn't pay off, he's history.
The only other option de Venise has is to stage a big-money heist planned by his crooked lawyer friend Arnie, but he's already turned down that particular deal. Arnie's plan was too risky, and besides, de Venise knows Arnie long enough and well enough not to trust him. De Venise doesn't trust anyone to torch the business either. Wanting it done right, he plans to do it himself, then set up an ironclad alibi.
Everything goes like clockwork until the insurance company refuses to pay off on de Venise's policy, leaving him with no business and no money to buy off his wise guy creditors.
With no more cards to play at this point, de Venise agrees to do the heist for Arnie. If nothing else, it will get him out of the country, and if de Venise is really lucky and really smart, there's even an outside chance of him scoring the bucks he needs to get him straight with the mob and put him back in action as the King of West Brooklyn.

Stunning Portrait of a Mafia Killer
Altogether this was a tour de force. This novel reigns as king of mafia fiction. Where the Godfather left off, "The King" picked up. Absolutely brilliant story told by a modern master.
Sizzling and realistic
"King" was a stunning, brilliant and savage portrait of mafia Brooklyn. The novel is more than a great thriller. It's genuine literature. It should also put Gravesend, Brooklyn where much of the story is set, on the map. Read this mafia thriller. It's terrific.
A KING AMONG THRILLERS
Mob thrillers are often mass market quickies. Sometimes they're good, though. Sometimes they're even great, but rarely. The King of West Brooklyn is that last kind, though, a truly great thriller based on mafia themes.
At first blush these might seem so familiar from other novels and media portrayals that you almost stifle a yawn. Not so with this thriller by David Alexander, which I believe is because of this author's first-hand knowledge with the ways of the wise guys. This novel is almost like an encyclopedia of the finer points of robbery, theft, assassinations, smuggling and -- what have I left out? -- oh yes, arson, and a few other things too.
Yet it all comes together within the scope of a very riveting and well developed high level plot that I believe I can safely predict will keep readers in suspense until this mafia tale's powerful and surprising conclusion --and afterwards, recovering from the shock.
The King of West Brooklyn -- a great story well told!
