Publisher Description

1999, on the threshold of a new millennium, the novelist Daniel Langham lives a reclusive life on an idyllic Greek island, hiding away from humanity and the events of the past. All that changes, however, when he meets artist Caroline Platt and finds himself falling in love. But what is his secret, and what are the horrors that haunt him?

1935. Writers Jonathon Langham and Edward Vaughan are summoned from London by their editor friend Jasper Carnegie to help investigate strange goings on in Hopton Wood. What they discover there - no less than a strange creature from another world - will change their lives forever. What they become, and their link to the novelist of the future, is the subject of Eric Brown's most ambitious novel to date. Almost ten years in the writing, The Kings of Eternity is a novel of vast scope and depth, full of the staple tropes of the genre and yet imbued with humanity and characters you'll come to love.

Great homage to the early pioneers of SciFi

Even with all it's "faults" I still found this to be a very enjoyable read. Brown tells his story in an interesting and engaging fashion and creates characters that are easy to empathize with, two very important elements for me. Yes, the story is quite a bit less Science Fictiony than I may have wanted and what SciFi there is has a certain 19th century naïveté to it, but, for me, that only adds to the charm of the book. While I have no proof that Brown's goal here was to create a kind of homage to the early classic 19th century SciFi writers, that is certainly the way this read to me. If you can accept that, I think most people, whether SciFi fans or not, will find this an enjoyable read.

A superb book by any measure!

Buy this book! Of the hundreds of "scifi" books I have read in my fifty years this book is easily in the top ten. Not truly a hard core science fiction read, more of a romp through space and time in a tweed jacket. I loved the book, I shall read the only remaining book I have not read by Mr Brown now and I shall recommend him heartily whenever the opportunity arises.
As I said at the start; buy this book!

Kings of Eternity

I am a die hard sci- fi fan. I have read, and loved such greats as Stephen Baxter, Gregory Benford, David Brin, Arthur C. Clarke, and Charles Sheffield. The worlds they have created have greatly enriched my life, (as well as entertained the hell out of me), but "Kings of Eternity" by Eric Brown has now attained a truly special place on the mantle of my favourites.
I am by nature a hard sci-fi, space opera lover. This novel, however, has moved me like no science fiction I have ever read!
Too often people hold the view of sci-fi as pure escapism, (a view, parradoxically, both acurate, yet often innane). This book both transports the reader to fantastical worlds and situations, yet, also, grounds the reader in a world of deep emotion matched by few authors.
All I can say is, read this book. I sincerely doubt many will be dissapointed.
