Does science necessarily undermine faith in God? Or could it actually support faith? Beyond the flashpoint debates over the teaching of evolution, or stem-cell research, most of us struggle with contradictions concerning life's ultimate question. We know that accidents happen, but we believe we are on earth for a reason. Until now, most scientists have argued that science and faith occupy distinct arenas. Francis Collins, a former atheist as a science student who converted to faith as he became a doctor, is about to change that.

Collins's faith in God has been confirmed and enhanced by the revolutionary discoveries in biology that he has helped to oversee. He has absorbed the arguments for atheism of many scientists and pundits, and he can refute them. Darwinian evolution occurs, yet, as he explains, it cannot fully explain human nature -- evolution can and must be directed by God. He offers an inspiring tour of the human genome to show the miraculous nature of God's instruction book. Sure to be compared with C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity, this is a stunning document, whether you are a believer, a seeker, or an atheist.

Fascinating overview and insights to the human genome. Couple that with spiritual revelation. The holy spirit was with the author’s hand. Rthomas Hughes magnasalon.com

Exceptional

Mr. Collins spoke at VCU graduation and peaked my interest. Head of humane gnome project a Christian? His book, although I had faith helped me to explain some facts of humanity I could not relate to. In all, this book, is by far a great read and an excellent resource for Christians and non Christians alike. I say if you are searching for why and how you are here and what your purpose in life is,this book is for you.

A Book for the Ages

Skeptics of faith as well as skeptics of evolution should read this extremely well-written book.

It's simply stunning how brilliantly and plainly Dr. Collins lays out so many of the views held by top scientists within the last two centuries, as well as their critics. He steers well clear of marginalizing anyone or any group - no matter their differing views and beliefs. Instead, he thoughtfully - and many times exhaustively - offers his erudite analysis on many of today's controversies that are being played out in the ongoing war of science versus faith.

I believe any open-minded reader will come away, like myself, highly enlightened. I excitedly intend on re-reading as it contains so much to digest.
