**A Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club Pick and New York Times bestseller**
A year after a summer guest dies under suspicious circumstances, her best friend lives under a cloud of grief and suspicion in this “fast-paced and gripping” (People) thriller filled with “dizzying plot twists and multiple surprise endings” (The New York Times Book Review).
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors.
Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl—but that’s just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable—until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can’t help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie’s brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they’re saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her.
“A riveting read…from master of suspense, Megan Miranda,” (Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of The Good Girl) The Last House Guest is a clever, twisty mystery that brilliantly explores the elusive nature of memory and the complexities of female friendships.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
We were bowled over by Megan Miranda’s addictive psychological thriller, which combines serious suspense with biting social commentary and plenty of whiplash-inducing twists. Avery Greer has spent her whole life in the exclusive seaside community of Littleport, Maine. But when her best friend dies and a murder investigation is launched, she finds herself questioning everything (and everyone) she thought she knew. Elegantly plotted and atmospheric, The Last House Guest lays bare the class divides that define so many “summer” towns. The story explores the dark side of female friendships and reminds us that ghosts are everywhere—we just need to know where to look.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This searing small-town thriller from bestseller Miranda (The Perfect Stranger) explores the complexities of female friendship and the picturesque fictions that money can buy. Avery Greer, a native of Littleport, Maine, is at a house party with the town's other 20-somethings awaiting her best friend, wealthy summer resident Sadie Loman, when the police arrive: Sadie's body washed up on the rocks near her parents' estate, and they want alibis from those in attendance. The discovery of a suicide note ends all talk of foul play, but Avery can't fathom Sadie taking her own life. A year later, Avery uncovers new evidence that underscores her suspicions and inspires her to investigate. The deeper Avery digs, the more secrets she unearths that are worth killing to keep. Flashbacks to the night of Sadie's death reveal fissures in the girls' relationship, casting doubt on Avery's honesty as a narrator. Sharply drawn characters both ground and elevate the bombshell-laden plot, while evocative prose heightens tension and conjures place. Miranda delivers a clever, stylish mystery that will seize readers like a riptide.

Ok
It wasn’t a page turner for me. I kept thinking it was going to get better but it didn’t. I still wanted to find out who did it so I kept reading.
It’s been done before
This book was like so many others (or vice versa)I felt like I had read it before.
Way to sloooooowwwwwww
I didn’t want to give up on this book because that’s not my style…but man…she made it so hard. The book seemed to take forever to get into and the ending wasn’t that great…super short and predictable. I have never written a negative review…so I feel bad critiquing someone else’s art. However…it just seemed like it was fast forwarded with a background story as a paragraph or two at the end. It a fan 😩
