Sometimes legends should stay buried in the past but there’s always a curious person that just has to be sure the legend is really true and then they will be satisfied. Then there is a chance that digging it up can have far greater consequences such as death but usually that thought doesn’t even enter the person or person’s minds. Even if the consequences can be fatal the curious feel that it’s worth the risk.
This is where the fool hearty comes in and the story begins with Dr. Steven Brace. He had just received his PhD in Archeology and was feely pretty cocky, and was ready to have his name alongside other famous archeologist’s before him in the history books. As for this doctor the only name he would be getting for himself would be his name listed in the obituaries. The good ole doctor started doing research into some legends and one that caught his eye was about pirates that had buried treasure on an island called Dead Man’s Island.
Legend has it that the island had buried treasure that was buried somewhere on Dead Man’s Island in the Atlantic Ocean. A pirate ship that was sailing next to the island called The Ghost Dog’s captain decided it would be a good place to bury their treasure. So the ship dropped anchor and lowered a small boat into the water to take the captain and his three men into shore to bury their treasure. Once the pirate’s boat reached the shore they were able to find a small cave on the island to bury their treasure. Just as the treasure was buried they were greeted by natives of the island. Instead of a warm welcome by the natives they were met with spears and beheaded on the spot and left in the cave along with the buried treasure to rot.
Dr. Brace read the legend but since all this happened centuries ago and pirates didn’t exist anymore and no natives on the island as well he felt he would have no problem finding the treasure and the rest would be history. Think again, Dr. Brace. He forgot that some archeologists have lost their lives going after the big one. So what makes him think this couldn’t happen to him as well.
Dr. Brace was also an experienced pilot and was eager to charter a twin engine plane to fly to Dead man’s Island. As soon as he got his passport and had the plane inspected and cleared for flight he would be on his way. Days later Dr. Brace had all the proper documentation and plane cleared for departure.
Upon arrival to the local airport the skies were blue and no bad weather was in the forecast. Dr. Brace was happy that the day finally arrived and would be on his way within a few days to the find the buried treasure. Going at this venture alone would be a big mistake on Dr. Brace’s part, but he was so full of himself that didn’t even cross his mind.
