"A book to savor--and share." —Susan Wiggs, New York Times Bestselling Author
The New York Times bestselling author of Rainy Day Friends and Lost and Found Sisters returns to Wildstone, California...
Brooke Lemon has always led the life she wanted, wild adventures—and mistakes—included, something her perfect sister, Mindy, never understood. So when Mindy shows up on Brooke’s doorstep in the throes of a break-down with her three little kids in tow, Brooke’s shocked.
Wanting to make amends, Brooke agrees to trade places, taking the kids back to Wildstone for a few days so Mindy can pick up the pieces and put herself back together. What Brooke doesn’t admit is she’s just as broken . . . Also how does one go home after seven years away? It doesn’t take long for Brooke to come face-to-face with her past, in the form of one tall, dark, sexy mistake. But Garrett’s no longer interested. Only his words don’t match his actions, leaving Brooke feeling things she’d shoved deep.
Soon the sisters begin to wonder: Are they lemons in life? In love? All they know is that neither seems to be able to run far enough to outpace her demons. And when secrets surface, they’ll have to learn that sometimes the one person who can help you the most is the one you never thought to ask.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This second-chance romance is also a story about two sisters who reconnect after years of estrangement. Overwhelmed by grief, Brooke Lemon fled her small hometown and left her boyfriend, Garrett, to deal with their shared tragedy while she traveled the world. But when her older sister Mindy is plunged into her own crisis, Brooke returns home to help with her unruly niece and nephews. The Lemon Sisters is a bittersweet, heartwarming, and often hilarious read that explores the importance of letting go of the past while also holding on to the people we love.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Shalvis's sensuous third Wildstone contemporary romantic novel (after Rainy Day Friends) reunites former lovers. Brooke Lemon lives in Los Angeles and is a producer of documentaries. When Brooke's older sister, Mindy, shows up at her door after a year out of contact, Brooke is stunned. Normally very put together, Mindy is disheveled and has her three young children with her. She recites a litany of woes, including business troubles, potty training, and the disappearance of her sex life. Brooke offers to take Mindy's children so Mindy can stay in L.A. for a few days and get some much-needed rest. Mindy agrees, and Brooke takes her niece and nephews back to Mindy's house in their hometown of Wildstone, on California's central coast. As Brooke bonds with the kids, she reunites with Garrett Montgomery, the boyfriend she left behind seven years before after a helicopter crash that caused her to miscarry their baby. Though she has never forgotten Garrett, she knows that her departure devastated him. Brooke and Garrett's discovery that their attraction is stronger than ever leads them to explore getting back together. Flawed, believable characters and plenty of sizzling love scenes make this an enjoyable outing.

Sisters and their “quirks”
I wasn’t sure about the Lemon sisters and their “quirks” but they sure did grow on me. Anyone who’s been married for awhile goes through highs and lows, Mindy and Linc were no different. Just living the day to day life of raising children, working, and still trying to be a loving and attentive spouse is hard, without the speculation and assumptions that couples jump to inside their heads. And, of course, Brooke and Garrett’s past had to be dealt with, avoidance, especially on Brooke’s part, doesn’t make feelings and circumstances go away. And, of course, on top of all of that, the sisters had to do some work on their relationship. There might not have been a lot of “action” and suspense but there sure wasn’t a dull or boring moment in this book!
Great, feel good story!
This might be one of my favorite reads of the year so far. And sort of reminded me of the movie, Raising Helen. In that the "party" sister ends up taking care of her nieces and nephews - in this instance while her sister had a much needed mental health break. And Brooke gets a look into the life her sister Mindy has as mom extraordinaire. And why Mindy needed a little break away from her life.
I liked that this wasn't just one person's story, it was really more than that. Brooke and Mindy both had their HEA - in whatever way that worked for them - I'm not telling you which because I want you to read it and figure it out for yourself. And maybe take a look inside and see if you're more of a Brooke or Mindy and maybe learning to be kind to yourself.
Brooke might be my favorite of the sisters, just simply because she seems to be a little more loose and less stressed - at least before Mindy took her break.
Either way, this will be a re-read for me when I need a funny, feel good book.
Sisters!
For a writer who doesn’t have a sister, she portrayed sisters well. You love them, hate them, fight with them, fight for them! This is a great book, I laughed, I cried. Jill Shalvis is one of my “pre-order” authors, I love her romantic comedies. This is one of her best, more women’s fiction than romance (but romance & laughs, too). I think book clubs everywhere will be reading this one. Hope Princess Millie gets her tiara back.
