The Lonely Fajita is a dive into the life of someone whose luck goes from bad to worse, as Abigail Mann’s protagonist, Elissa, finds herself in a quarter-life crisis. In her funny debut, the author encapsulates navigating life with no real direction or destination yet still taking its trials in your stride. Some characters are relatable, some are despicable, but they are all written with a depth and clarity that’s hard not to appreciate. It’s clear why Mann was shortlisted for a 2019 Comedy Women in Print Prize and The Lonely Fajita shows that friendship and love can go much further than you might realise—even when it seems like nothing is going right.
