Meanwhile, Payne and Jones are in St. Petersburg, Fla., when Payne receives a phone call from a frightened American woman, Allison Taylor, in St. Petersburg, Russia, who says her boss, a wealthy antiquities researcher, has just been shot dead there. Payne flies to Russia to rescue Allison. Both of these plots eventually join as all involved head off to find a mysterious lost artifact, now known to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Despite the silly, juvenile banter between Payne and Jones as they go about the business of killing bad guys and the book's weak denouement, readers will find the Greek setting a refreshing change after the usual Rome and Jerusalem venues of many such religious thrillers.

Not great writing, but good storytelling
If your looking for deep insights to humanity, breath taking imagery or amazing characterizations, you won't find it here. What you will find is a good story, well plotted, anchored in real historical people and places, told in a predictable but enjoyable way, with characters you enjoy hanging out with. I've read his first three novels, and each one gets a little bit better. I doubt you'll ever see the authors name by a Pulitzer Prize listing, but he's consistently making the NYT Best Sellers list, and that ain't bad. Take off your literary hat and just enjoy the ride...

Picked this book up at the airport before I knew it was on itunes. Loved it. Kept me guessing and had some great action. I think I want to travel to Greece now. I've never read anything by Chis K before. Now that I've just finished The Lost Throne I'm on I tunes looking to get another one of his books. Enjoy!
