In this enjoyable inspirational romance from Hauck (The Wedding Dress), an actress with a history of doomed love gets cast in a role that might lead her to a happy ending. Screenwriter Jesse Gates wrote Bound by Love based on a love letter written by his colonial ancestor, Hamilton Lightfoot. When Chloe Daschle is cast as Hamilton's lover, Esther, she immediately identifies with her role as "a girl looking for love who doesn't believe she's worthy." Chloe has dreams of marriage, but has been burned badly by love and is dealing with the humiliation of a viral video of her getting into a scuffle. While Chloe finds that her Christian faith helps her overcome her past traumas, Jesse struggles to make peace with his own failed relationships. In a parallel but less well-rounded story line, the original Hamilton and Esther are in love during the Revolutionary War, but Hamilton is fighting for the Rebels, while Esther's father is a staunch Loyalist who has forbidden their relationship. Jesse and Chloe rewrite Hamilton and Esther's history on screen and their relationship strengthens as reenacting the story helps them reconsider their ideas about a perfect ending. Hauck cleverly uses the movie to bring historical flourishes to a strong story about overcoming mistakes through faith and commitment.

What a charming and intriguing story that expertly wove together the last and present! I was drawn in from the very beginning—loved the characters and their enduring faith despite the hardships they endured.

A letter that cover centuries of two couples, the choices they had to make.It was filled with frustration, unrequited love, that she has intertwined to give us a story from the past to the present. Characters were very well done, you got caught in their emotions, of fear, and yet hope. Readers will once again be caught in a page turner story, as Rachel does so well. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my
honest opinion.
An incredible contemporary/historical romance!
The characters in this novel are so well developed that I felt I could sit down for a cup of tea and visit with them. I was especially captivated by all four of the main characters. It was like I could get right inside their heads at any moment.
The way the story flowed between the two time periods was wonderful. I don’t read very many duel-time-period books so it did take me a couple of switches to get used to it.
The historical portion really brought to life for me what the conflict between Tories and Patriots was like during the Revolutionary War. I had never really considered that they would be living in close proximity with each other. The fact that Esther and Hamilton had grown up as close friends and then found themselves on opposite sides was heartbreaking for me.
All four of the main characters had personal journeys to grow closer to God and mature. There was past baggage that they had to sort out and move on from. I love it when the characters grown throughout the story. That is what life is all about.
