The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom is a novel about the fictional musician Frankie Presto and his amazing journey through music and life. Frankie’s life story is told from the perspective of music, a fictional narrator. This is fitting, given that Frankie was one of the world’s greatest guitarists.
The story, however, begins at its end: Frankie has died during a music festival. During a performance, his body levitates and then drops to the stage. The novel opens at Frankie’s funeral, where music-industry figures—including nonfictional musicians such as Lyle Lovett and Ingrid Michaelson—have gathered to pay their respects and share their thoughts about the deceased guitarist. Music, the narrator, uses the opportunity of the funeral to reflect on Frankie’s life…

Peice of work, and awesome!
A piece of work , so unique in it's concept that it has possibly brought about a new experience to me in appreciation of what the written word can do to the mind. I was a musician for part of my life and music is perhaps THE most powerful medium that can, hopefully, hold this crazy world together. Whether it succeeds, only time will eventually tell us, and , at the moment unfortunately a huge doubt is the possible conclusion that I have to arrive at. But I hope that my pessimism will be thwarted.
Magic is a gift!
Music is a gift felt by all but embodied by few. It has the power to change lives. We begin with the beat of a heart. Narrated by Music and by various real musicians in episodic flashbacks en route to the funeral of Frankie Presto, we learn of the tragedies, successes, failures, and effects on others by this fictitious musician extraordinaire, and how lives were changed by the 6 magical blue strings on his guitar.
I loved it!
Frankie Presto, a Spanish war orphan and musical prodigy comes to America all alone at the age of 10. His only real possession is a six string guitar given to him by his beloved Maestro. It takes Presto a good part of his life to realize that the six strings are magical and that when called upon, they can affect people's lives. This is a wonderful gift but also a terrible burden for him to carry throughout his life and it affects his behavior, his career, and his relationships.
