Publisher Description
Esther Vilar’s classic polemic about the relationship between the sexes caused a sensation on its first publication. In her introduction to this revised edition, Vilar maintains that very little has changed. A man is a human being who works, while a woman chooses to let a man provide for
her and her children in return for carefully dispensed praise and sex. Vilar’s perceptive, thought-provoking and often very funny look at the battle between the sexes has earned her severe criticism and even death threats. But Vilar’s intention is not misogynous: she maintains that only if women and men look at their place in society with honesty, will there be any hope for change.

Too Accurate
I will start by saying that there were very few things I did not agree with in this book. Such as, one’s spirituality is deeper than what was said. However, I am 25 reading this book, and I wish I had read it when I was 15. I think this being written by a woman makes it even more captivating and compelling.
Unhinged
Reads like a parody of radical feminist literature with the genders swapped. From a 10,000 ft perspective there’s some ideas worth exploring here, primary how women use soft power to their advantage. I would’ve liked to see more evidence to support her arguments, there’s a couple spots she cites research but this reads more like a manifesto.
Since today’s discourse around gender politics usually devolves into “Men oppress women, end of story”, this book is at least another take against that mainstream idea, even if it’s a nuclear hot take. Read this with a critical lens.
Excellent
For those of you interested in exploring the concepts of misandry, sexism against men, and male disposability, this is a must read.
