The McDougalls (The McDougall Program for a Healthy Heart; The Macdougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss), who have previously called for Americans to consume no more than 10 percent of fat in their diet, present a collection of simply prepared recipes that eschew eggs, dairy products, meat and fish. Many are fast versions of traditional vegan fare: Tofu Jambalaya; Vegetable Burritos; Quick Spicy Lentil Chili. Some are a bit more unusual, e.g., Artichoke Pasta Sauce; Gingered Green Grains; Black Bean Pizza. The speedy preparation of these dishes is based on the use of such convience foods as canned fruits and vegetables and pre-washed, bagged greens. Although the McDougalls don't supply nutritional analyses nor explicate the food-count parameters of recipes they offer, their fairly rigid posture is made clear in the brief chapter introductions in which they describe the dangers of a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet. I'm so pleased that I no longer have to drag around my dog-eared paperback copy of this book. I consider McDougall, Ornish, Barnard, Esselstyn, Campbell .....to be must reads for anyone serious about pro-active healthcare.
Now that more of these authors are becoming available on iPad I can keep these important reference books handy whenever I need to check something or refer to a recipe.
Bring on the rest of your titles Dr. McDougall and Mary I hope you continue to develop your wonderful nutritious recipes, many of which have become weekly regulars in my household.
The recipes in this book are great. They are simple and tasty and I am losing weight without effort. My complaint is that the index does not have live links to the book. It is a real pain to try to locate a particular recipe.

This book is a godsend and can stop the "normal" progression into disease, not to mention make one less prone to everyday threats such as colds, constipation and indigestion.
