The McFarland Bride

Mercy's blue eyes flamed in anger and disappointment as she stared at the retreating figure of the horse. Mr. Miller was the fifth person she was trying to sell the McFarland ranch to, unsuccessfully. Sweat trickled down the sides of her face; she wasn't just disturbed about the inability to sell off the ranch, she was worried about the future of her siblings. She pulled in a deep breath and caressed her thumping heart with her left palm, while the right hand washed off the sweat that had kissed her brows. Her hopes of selling the ranch was shattered, it wouldn't be long before she and her orphaned siblings began begging for bread. She had to do something about this.
