Publisher Description

Bernal Díaz del Castillo was born around 1492 to 1498 (the exact date is unknown) in Medina del Campo (Spain), he came from a poor family and received little education; however, he was literate, which indicates a certain level of education. He sailed to Tierra Firme (now Nombre de Dios in modern Panama) with the expedition led by Pedrarias Dávila in 1514 to make his fortune, but after two years found few opportunities there. Many of the settlers had been sickened or killed by an epidemic, and there was political unrest.

Unbelievably good Read

I found the entirety of volume one and two of Bernal del Diaz fascinating.

It is difficult to believe that any of the Conquistadors could have fought so many battles and lived to tell about it.

Also, old Bernal sure had a great memory to reflect all those conflicts and the names of so many people in the process.

But above all I thought his reporting of the Sword in the Sky observed by him and " anyone else that just had to look up to see it" was mysterious. As well as his reporting that immediately before his arrival Mexican had observed Two Circles with Spokes in the sky moving toward the east.

I guess one might say Ezekiel " saw the wheel way up in the middle of the air" as well as Montezuma . Very interesting. No?
