The metamorphosis is a novella written by Czech writer of novels and short stories Franz Kafka and first published in 1915. It is considered as one of the constructive works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in many universities and colleges in Western world.


The main character, named Gregor Samsa, travelling salesman, once waked up finding out he metamorphosed into a large, monstrous insect creature. Kafka never gave an explanation why did Gregor transform into a monster. The cause of it is not revealed in book as well. The rest part of novel is about Gregor attempting to get used to his new state as he deals with being burden to his parents and sister who turned him down.
