Publisher Description
Ancient gods. Modern war. And a star-crossed couple who could use some divine intervention.
The day I was drafted into the army of the gods, all I knew about being a MASH surgeon was what I’d learned from Hawkeye Pierce and Hot Lips Houlihan. Now here I am, Dr. Petra Robichaud, in the middle of an immortal war, assigned to a MASH camp with a nosy sphinx, a vegetarian werewolf, and an uptight vampire who really needs to get a life.
At least they’re all too busy with their own dramas to discover my secret: I can see the dead. It’s a forbidden gift, one that can get me killed, so I haven’t told a soul.
Until the arrestingly intense Galen arrives on my operating table, half-dead and totally to-die-for. When his spirit tries to slip out of his fatally wounded body, I impulsively slip it back in. Call it a rash resurrection. One I’ll live to regret.
Now Commander Galen of Delphi knows my secret, and he’s convinced I’m part of an ancient prophecy—one that can end the war for good. But taking a chance could cost me everything. And it would be easier to convince him to leave me alone, except now the prophecies are starting to come true…
Warning: This novel contains a hefty dose of danger, drama, practical jokes, pet swamp lizards, brooding demigods, adventure, romance, and heart—in a MASH camp where everybody knows your business.
What Reviewers are saying…
5 Stars! “Yet another Angie Fox book that is impossible to put down.”
5 Stars! “This was a cross between MASH and a grown up, sexy version of a Percy Jackson novel—lots of fun and a highly recommended read!”
5 Stars! “Can I give it 10 stars? This reminded me of the MASH TV shows that I watched growing up, only better.”
5 Stars! “Read this one fast only if you can afford the rest of the series, because you ARE going to want to read on.”
5 Stars! “Angie's humor is perfectly on par with MaryJanice Davidson's Undead Series, so if you have enjoyed those then you will love this.”
*The core of this book was originally called Immortally Yours, published by St. Martin's Press in 2012. The author has rewritten it into the way she always envisioned the story to be, which means it is now a romantic comedy instead of an angsty book. Oh, and there are a lot more pet swamp lizards, too.
Customer Reviews
Love the characters!
I read the original books in this series and this is a re-release with some revisions. In this first book there is a war between the old gods and new gods. Petra is a doctor in limbo in one of the MASH units for the new gods. She also has a hidden ability that could bring peace and could also get her killed if anyone finds out. Galen is a demigod and soldier and Petra's patient. Together they work to find a way to end the war. I like the variety of supernaturals - werewolves, fae, vampires, imps and more. I think Galen and Petra will develop into a good love story.
Some things that happen remind me of the TV show MASH. The way they all try to outdo each other to win the bet on who can prank the head of the MASH unit made me laugh. There's even a "Father Mulcahy" in the story along the lines of the TV show Mash.
Overall I enjoyed the revisions made to this book from the original version and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Better than the Song!
I sat down to start this while everyone calmed down for bed. Now, everyone is sleeping and the book is suddenly over. I had no idea the hours had sped by. Another incredibly fantastic series from Angie Fox with open nods to other peers within the paranormal genre had me squealing like a teenage girl at their favorite boy band concert. It had everything from an original twist on mythology to incredible characters and brought all the feels. I can’t wipe the grin from my face.
Thank you to NatGalley, Angie Fox, and Moose Island Books for giving me the chance to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
The Monster Mash
I was introduced to Author Angie Fox with her Accidental Demon Slayer series. From book one of that series, I was hooked! There is a ton of depth and background to her stories, but it is never hard to follow. All of her stories have an element of fantasy to them but are somehow so believable. I love the mix of romance, mystery, and humor she delivers so effortlessly. I read every book until that series ended and then swapped over to her Southern Ghost Hunter series, which was just as good (Pleasantly surprising, since that isn’t always the case with some authors). So, when I heard there was a revamp of an old series, I jumped on board with both feet!
This series is a little more similar to the Accidental Demon Slayer series, in a good way. You will immediately get sucked into a world of humans, werewolves, vampires and demi gods – all set in a MASH unit that is reminiscent of the old TV show, except the war is between the Old Gods and the New Gods and the unit is in Limbo (yes, The Limbo). And yet, all the characters feel so real and so “human”, that it’s easy to accept the fantasy world and just focus on the story itself.
I don’t like to give away any of the story, but I will give some of my favorite attributes – a Strong female lead, a gorgeous and kind male lead, descriptions that make you feel that you are really there and living the storyline. It is a wonderful mashup of romance, action, humor, and fantasy that will give you a good escape as you read.
I cannot wait until the next book in this series is out!!! Until then and the next book in the Southern Ghost Hunter series is out, I think I may start re-reading the Demon Slayer series!
I highly recommend this, as well as her other series. You won't regret it!
