The Mudlark's Song

Aurora Lark, whose favorite pastimes are hunting for antique treasures and remodeling her old Oakland house, discovers a trove of diary entries and letters from the 1930s, hidden in the attic floorboards. The diary, written by a young woman in boarding school in England, mirrors some of Aurora Lark's own life: a lonely childhood, difficult parents, a fascination with history. Determined to change her life, Lark quits her safe but dull job and opens her home to a handsome new roommate, Bryn, and deals with her dysfunctional relationship with her mother, a retired actress. Reading the diary also inspires Lark to take up her own journal writing again, leading to an unburdening of deep secrets. As she writes, she wishes for a broader audience, but how can she trust anyone with her dark history, even if her story could benefit others?
