Publisher Description

This book is based on the immigration of about 300 Italian migrants from the north of Italy to Far North Queensland, Australia in 1891.
They were reluctantly chosen because the Australian and Queensland Government could not get migrants from the British Isles or Northern Europe to work as sugar cane cutters.
These migrants ended up changing the sugar industry by setting up their own little farms which led to the demise of the big sugar cane plantations and the exploitation of the sugar cane cutters.
Their migration is a story of endurance, courage and vision.
This book tells the story from the perspective of one family from 1891 to 2013 and all the happened in between including two World Wars, the Great Depression, Internment and Cyclones.
It is a fictitious family and so is their story. However it is based on a true historical background.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will be given to the fund for the establishment of a monument to celebrate the Italian pioneers in Far North Queensland.
