The Mysterious Island

In this classic tale by French science fiction writer Jules Verne, a group of Americans escape the American Civil War by flying in a balloon and land on a mysterious island in the Atlantic. This English translation of the original 1874 version was published in 1920.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The second title in Wesleyan's new Early Classics of Science Fiction series is Sidney Kravitz's translation (14 years in the making) of Jules Verne's castaway epic, The Mysterious Island. Like the new Modern Library edition (noted in Forecasts, Dec. 24), it boasts black-and-white illustrations and is unexpurgated; unlike it, this volume contains a Verne chronology and brief biography, endnotes, appendixes and information about previous translations.

A Must Read
This a wonderful tale of strength and perseverance, a must read in my opinion. The films bearing the name “The Mysterious Island “ pale in comparison to the book.
Wonderful
An epic tale told in fine prose. A hidden “sequel “ I wasn’t aware of.
