Kovach really knows how to develop the kind of fully realised characters you start to imagine yourself having conversations with—even if they're dangerously unhinged. We loved the way Kovach used this strong ensemble to show us glimpses of the story from different points of view. From Deborah’s unerring resilience to her captor’s twisted rationale, every aspect of this thriller is both deeply compelling and downright unsettling. The white-knuckle intensity of this frantic-paced adventure will have you staying up way past your bedtime.

A page turner for sure!
I really enjoyed the book with one exception, the relationship between DI Harte and her bratty daughter. It made no sense that Gina hadn’t told her the truth about her father. She’s a grown woman with a child, and the nonsense about her insisting her mother come to a memorial service 20 years after his death was hard to fathom. She was only two when he died, so why give her mother so much grief because she didn’t want to come? She deserved to know how badly he’d hurt and abused her mother. It could have spared them both a lot of hurt feelings and guilt. Other than that bit, it was a good book.

It felt unfinished. I wanted to know what happened to Deborah and her family!
