Publisher Description
#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding novel that captured the world's imagination. • "Part love story, part fable ... defies both genres and expectations." —The Boston Globe
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Reading Erin Morgenstern’s sparkling debut is a lot like stepping into the tent of a wondrous three-ring circus. You’re treated to a spectacle that excites all your senses—and you can’t wait to tell everyone you know about it. The novel follows Le Cirque des Rêves, a 19th-century traveling carnival that arrives unannounced outside of world capitals and runs from dusk till dawn. The circus is the setting for the epic rivalry between two magicians—and the battleground for their star pupils, Celia and Marco, who inconveniently fall in love. Morgenstern’s gifts for dreamy scene-setting and shy romance make The Night Circus an intoxicating read.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
A circus Le Cirque des R ves mysteriously appears at night, remains open only during hours of darkness, and then just as mysteriously disappears. But unknown to its visitors, the circus is really a venue for a dangerous game between two talented young illusionists whose magic is real. Bound to each other by their masters, Celia and Marco are forced to challenge each other to increasingly dangerous feats and displays of sorcery. But the real challenges come when respect and love blooms between them. Morgenstern's wonderful novel is made all the more enchanting by top-notch narration from the incomparable Jim Dale. The voices he creates add depth and nuance to the book's characters. And while some of those voices may echo his work on the Harry Potter series, they are nonetheless perfectly suited to Morgenstern's characters. Mesmerizing from the very start, this audio version will enchant listeners. A Doubleday hardcover.
Customer Reviews
Good book! Bad Starbucks!
I enjoyed the book very much, but was definitely irritated to have to purchase the last 3/4 of this "free" book. Put it on hold at the library and save $13.
Review the Book!
Last I checked, this review area is for the content of the BOOK, not Starbucks! Although it would be unfortunate to receive something 'free' only to find out it is not, I do hope people who are here to find out about the BOOK will look past the Starbucks reviews because it is a very interesting read! I also hope that more people will review the BOOK so the poor thing will maybe draw a better rating!!
Magic
This book isn't about magic; it is magic.
Enough said.
